An independent charity has celebrated its 30th anniversary by hosting community event across the South West.

Crimestoppers launched a series of CommuniTea events, the first of which was organised by the Bournville and Oldmixon One Team at the For All Healthy Living Centre, in Lonsdale Avenue.

The event sees people invited for a cup of tea and a chat to find out about how they can speak up about crime anonymously.

During 2017/18, Crimstoppers received 3,184 pieces of actionable information in the Avon and Somerset police area, a nine per cent increase on the previous financial year.

Crimestoppers’ regional manager for the West Country, Karen MacDonald, said: “Organising events is a great way for us to build practical support, raise much-needed funds and spread the message about the service we provide.”

Neighbourhood beat manager for the Bournville and Oldmixon One Team, Nick Falconer, said: “It’s really important that we work to promote services available to people, and by participating in events like this, we’re able to let our community know how they can pass information to the police through Crimestoppers.”
