Weston Football Club hopes to send a squad of talented youngsters to a storied international tournament, and is calling on the town’s businesses for support.

The Seagulls’ under-15s starlets hope to participate in Sweden’s Gothia Cup – which has been graced by the likes of Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer and Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic – and need to raise money to ‘fulfil their dream’.

The team hosted a race night and auction on Saturday which raised £695, and the club is now calling for firms to sponsor the team.

Coach Nick Hutchings said: “We still have a lot of money to raise, but the race night was a huge success.

“We would like to thank a number of local businesses who sponsored races.

“If you can help the boys fulfil their dream, we are looking for a business which would like to sponsor them.”
