Video game fans can enjoy a blast from the past at Weston’s Grand Pier thanks to its new retro arcade.

Pier engineers have resurrected several arcade classics, including Konami’s Track And Field and Taito’s Space Invaders, giving them a new lease of life alongside games which are the ‘latest’ in technology.

The cabinets housing the games have been refurbished and the old monitors have been replaced with up-to-date LCD screens.

Pier general manager Tim Moyle said: “The new retro arcade is great and can be found on the first floor of the pier near the prize shop.

“There has been a revival in 1980s nostalgia especially since Raw Thrills has recently reproduced the original Space Invaders using the latest technology.

“The games we have refurbished were originally produced in the early to mid-1980s so we are expecting people who were teenagers then to come back and relive their youth.”
