Mel Ling, aged 37, completed a five-day trek of the Great Wall of China in 2015 and wanted to take on the next challenge in Peru in memory of 11-year-old Mary Collard, who died from bone cancer.

Mel said: “After the success of the last trek I wanted to push myself even further and this certainly was a very big challenge for me.

“I was concerned how the altitude would affect my asthma and if I would be able to reach the top but with the support and encouragement from such an amazing group of people, who I was lucky to share the experience with, I made it and it was the best feeling in the world.”

Mel has so far raised £900 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust and hopes to take on Kilimanjaro next time.
