A Weston woman has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Ella Jeeps, who lives at The Links Residential Care Home in Uphill Road North, was born in Carlton Street in 1917.

She has lived in the town all her life, spending time working in the gift shop on the original Grand Pier, as a dinner lady at Worle Comprehensive School and at Moorland Sanitary Steam Laundry.

She met her husband, John, in 1939 while he was stationed at Yeovilton with the Fleet Air Arm.

Although John was originally from Cambridgeshire, the couple were married in Weston and went on to have two children together.

Ella has been a lifetime member of the 49 Social Club in Baker Street and has two brothers, one aged 90 and one aged 95.

As well as receiving a card from the Queen, Ella spent her special day surrounded by family and friends.
