GREEN-fingered volunteers have set to work to help Weston celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in patriotic floral splendour.

Over the coming weeks, 25 volunteers from the Weston In Bloom team will set to work removing spring flowerbeds across the town and replacing them with summer displays.

To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years on the throne, this year’s colour theme is red, white and blue.

Volunteers will work on the floral boats on the roundabouts on the Queensway in Worle, the wicker baskets at Paddock Park and Bideford Road, tubs and baskets in Worle High Street, Weston Railway Station and by The Playhouse theatre in Weston High Street, and the model train in Alexandra Parade.

The group, which is funded by Weston Town Council, will also start work on four beds in Grove Park which will include a bio-diversity flower bed for bees, insects and butterflies.
