IT’S big, white and has a polar bear painted on it’s side – what on earth was washed up on to Sand Bay last night (Wed).

Well, the Weston Mercury, after sending a reporter armed with a camera to the initially unknown object, can reveal it is a walk-in freezer.

Thanks must go to a tip-off from reader Audrey Patricia, who spotted the unit before calling in at the Mercury offices in Waterloo Street.

The 72-year-old said: “It was so big, I couldn’t believe it had been washed up into the bay.

“Lot’s of people have been down to check it out.”

A North Somerset Council spokesman said its teams were aware of the washed-up unit and hoped to have it removed in the next couple of days.
