Prizes worth a whopping £1,000 will be up for grabs in Weston-super-Mare tonight (Thursday), as the Mercury’s Five Gold Rings competition finishes in style.

You could be the lucky recipient of a £500 voucher for top-quality jeweller Caboodle, and all you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is enter the Mercury’s free competition at the late-night shopping event in the town centre.

Three rings have been given away so far in the competition, which is being run in conjunction with Weston Business Improvement District, and there will be a double giveaway tonight to mark the end of this year’s late-night shopping.

The latest winners of the competition were Weston couple Josie and Richard Masters, of Sunnyside Road, who received the perfect Christmas present on December 14.

After browsing the shops in the town centre, the pair received the coveted phone call informing them of the result, and they plan to put the voucher to good use.

Richard and Josie, who have been married for 45 years, will buy replacement wedding rings after the former lost his ‘in a flower bed somewhere’, while his wife’s original no longer fits due to arthritis.

Josie said: “I’m delighted. I’ve been lucky with things in the past but this is amazing.

“It’s made our Christmas already.”

Caboodle owner Steve Finch told the Mercury he was ‘delighted’ with the result.

He said: “With the competition being Five Gold Rings, this is the first time this year the winners will use the vouchers for gold rings, which is a lovely and wonderful story.

“The competition has built on the success of last year and people seem to remember it from last year. The amount of entries has been fabulous and it’s really encouraging all these people are in town on a Thursday night.

“There’s double the reason to support Weston locally tonight. We are giving away two £500 vouchers so there’s £1,000 up for grabs.

“I encourage everyone to shop locally and support the local community – and you never know, it may be you who wins one of the £500 prizes.”

All you have to do to enter the competition is find the Mercury stand in the town centre and enter the free competition by 7.30pm. It could win you the perfect present.
