Spring Watch has arrived in Weston. PICTURE: Nick Page Hayman

We invited Weston Mercury readers to submit their best images of Weston-super-Mare in springtime, and now we can reveal the winner...

Nick Page Hayman’s picture of the North Star train and flower bed wins our ‘spring is here’ iwitness24 photo challenge. Nick’s colourful image of the locomotive, taken on a clear sunny day, also features a slinky spring and watch and is cleverly entitled: ‘Spring Watch in Weston’.

We had a number of wonderful entries, proving that spring is well and truly here and hinting at warmer days to follow. Some of our favourites included a cheeky squirrel in Clarence Park, photographed by James Walters, who also took a lovely set of pictures of a volunteer gardener attending the park flower beds. Terry Kelly caught some great close-up shots of flowers as did Annabell Hawkins who also photographed a magnificent caterpillar in the furls of a leaf.

The theme for our next photo challenge is ‘Weston by night’. We want to see your favourite pictures taken around Weston after dark. To enter, simply go to and upload your photo to the ‘photo challenge’ group.
