Two women and their dogs were among the people who were rescued after getting stuck in the mud off Weston-super-Mare yesterday (Sunday).
Weston Coastguard was paged to reports of people in difficulty out in the mud at Weston Bay.
Its spokesman said: “On our arrival it was clear that they were having difficulties so we put a plan into action involving Firefly Hovercraft from the fire service.
“We put two of our team on board the hovercraft and brought the casualties back to safety.
“We then spotted other people out on the mud and decided to check on them – they required our help.
“We assisted two ladies and their dogs back to the beach on the hovercraft.”
Clevedon’s coastguard team, plus the BARB Hovercraft team, Weston RNLI and paramedics also attended.
The Weston Coastguard spokesman said: “This is a great example of multi-agency co-operation.
“If you see anybody in difficulties on the coast. Don’t delay, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
