Safety concerns have led Yatton Parish Council to back plans for the village’s rugby club to get an extra car park.
Members voted to support a retrospective planning application from Brick House Farm for a gravel car park to be used in North End.
Permission is sought for it to be used on 28 Sundays a year for junior matches.
The council agreed to ‘support the facility of youth rugby in the village’ and ruled ‘this application was necessary’.
It added: “It is an extension of an existing access and the car park was needed for junior members and parents to reach the pitches as it was located where it was unsafe to walk.”
North Somerset Council’s highways team has raised no objections as it believes accommodating 60 more vehicles will not lead to problems on the surrounding roads.
The final decision will be made by district councillors or its planning officers.
