The Burlington Street museum will hold its Big Dig event every week day until August 21, with an exhibition teaching children about archaeology and history.

The event, the brainchild of Bournemouth University student and museum volunteer Shauni Brocklesby, features a large sand pit containing treasures for children to dig up.

They are also being taught how to write their names using Viking runes and Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Museum supervisor Adam Brown said: “We are really hoping that this will plant seeds of interest into children and advance their understanding about this amazing subject.”
