Weston-super-Mare Golf Club club president John Whitewood, and his wife, Alison Whitewood, have won the prestigious Irlam Trophy for the first time recently.
The pair hit a superb stableford score of 39 points under difficult conditions with wind and early rain
The runners-up were Nick and Kath Farrant, with 37 points on the back nine, from Clive and Sue Stillwell in third.
The competition has been running since 1969 when George Irlam first donated the trophy.
"Ali and I are thrilled to finally win the prestigious Irlam Trophy after finishing runners-up on several past occasions," John told Weston Mercury Sport.
"We’d both like to thank Sally for hosting the event, which is always viewed as a very important competition in Weston-super-Mare’s calendar."
A total of 10 couples entered the competition, playing on a course in excellent condition and all gathered in the clubhouse afterwards for a superb dinner of roast beef and treacle tart.
Sally Irlam provided red and white wine, a tradition she has carried on in memory of her husband George on what was a great evening had by all.
