Hornets produced arguably their best display so far of the season by beating Dudley Kingswingford 54-22 to claim their first win in seven National League 2 West games last Saturday.
Hornets oozed confidence following their 17-17 draw at Hinckley and it took only four minutes for Adam Francis to open the scoring and Jamie Elswood added the conversion to get off to a good start.
However, Dudley's William Hancox went over with Fred Morgan adding the extras to level the scores.
But Kieran Ward picked up a lose ball from Dudley line-out, he did a switch with George Timmins, on his home debut, and the very exciting strong running back rower launched the attack.
He found Danny Bailey outside him and the centre put the ball on a plate for Isaac Campbell-Wu whose pace was too much for the covering defence and a superb try out wide.
Hornets now were enjoying running with the ball and Francis found himself just outside the ruck area and Hayden Tuttiett found him on the hoof, he slipped the ball to Luke Graham, who dived over and the conversion was added by Elswood to give the hosts a handy lead.
Dudley were not just here to make up the numbers and following a scrum Morgan had a kick at goal, which was successful and went into the break 19-10 down.
The game was still in the balance and the first score crucial and Francis scored his second with Elswood adding the conversion and the hosts were in control.
Connor Baker then was on hand to steam over for his first try this season with Elswood adding the extras.
Hornets increased the lead when Ward mopped up the ball, Danny Bailey was in deep and Timmins arrived at pace and the 18-year-old went over and was converted once again by Elswood.40-10.
However, Hornets from the restart were prepared now to run the ball from anywhere and while launching an attack from deep within their own 22 when Tuttiet’s pass was read by Mark Harrison and he intercepted to score.
Within seconds of the restart Tuttiett was able to repay his teammates for the earlier error with a try and again Elswood was successful.47-15.
Dudley launched an attack to get the try and claim a bonus point but a loose pass was snapped up by Connor Vickery and he went over untouched, with Elswood once again adding the extras and the game was over.
