Weston-super-Mare RFC’s under-14s Roses came away from Bristol with victory in a three-team 10-a-side touch rugby tournament at Ashton Gate recently.
Their first opponents were North Bristol and, after tries from captain Bella Whiting (2), Megan Board and Chloe Mullins, the Roses proved too strong for their rivals in a close fought battle as they ran out the 4-2 victors.
South Bristol was next up for the Roses, who were brushed aside 2-0.
An excellent try for Evie Press and another for Bella Whiting, set up by lovely footwork from Rhianna Hillier as she left defenders in her wake
The great day which was topped off by Bristol Bears Women winning their opening Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby game against Sale Sharks Women 48-5.
“We are extremely proud of our girls, who had a fantastic day,” said manager Tracey Williams.
“It’s great to see clubs like Bristol Bears really helping showcase girls rugby. Our section has grown massively over the last two years so we know girls rugby is growing in popularity.
“At Weston-super-Mare RFC we support growing the game and with new girls joining us each week, we have expanded our coaching team to make sure we have the right environment for girls to learn a new sport.
“We are also in the middle of building our girls only facilities, designed by the girls for their exclusive use, so they have a space that suits their needs.”
Roses under-14s squad: Bella Whiting, Meg Board, Phoebe Whitemore, Aimee Begley, Jess Deacon, Kaycee Deacon, Evie Press, Lilly Reames, Erin Goode, Emma Mason, Poppy Prince Molly Glen, Rhianna Hillier, and Chloe Mullins.
