Hornets fell to a disappointing 24-12 defeat at Bournville in their final National 2 West match of the first half of the season last Saturday.
Bournville started at full pace and attacked with vigour and an adjudged high tackle by Hornets led to a kick to the corner and a well-executed line-out saw the hosts score the first try through Christopher Idehen.
Hornets struggled to get out of their half, with the wind conditions, and running with the ball was the only option which they did well but were let down by a lack of composure when most needed and mistakes let the home team clear deep into Hornets 22.
After a series of scrums and penalties Bournville eventually went over again through Owen Williams to extend their lead further.
Winger Ozzy James sadly had to leave the field with an Achilles rupture and to compound further misery after a yellow card was awarded to Connor Baker.
Hornets now looked doomed as the hosts looked sure to score but they had other ideas and got a penalty of their own and proceeded to work their way up the field with a man down and had a line-out near halfway.
The ball was won by Sam Taylor and shipped to the impressive George Timmins and his powerful run and determination saw him score a superb try right on the half-time whistle.
After the break Hornets felt they had a chance with the elements in their favour but a crucial decision went against the Hornets and Bournville increased their lead through Idehen, which was converted by Rhys Williams.
With plenty of time left, and Bournville on their own line, Timmins was able to charge down a kick and collect the ball to score and reduce the lead.
Hornets now attempted to go on and win the game but some poor set pieces let them down and allowed the home team to regroup and launch attacks, which they did to great effect after Samuel Grimshaw gave the hosts a bonus point and with the extras added by Jacob Fewtrell sealed the win.
Hornets have one final game this year with Exeter University come to the Nest in the first return game as the second half of the campaign gets under way this Saturday at 2:30pm.
