It’s been a tough season in the Premier Division of the Somerset County League for the three Weston based teams, and they’re now battling each other in the fight for survival.

Worle FC, Wrington Redhill and Uphill Castle all find themselves in the bottom half of the table with five or less games to go in the 2023/34 season, and may have to force one another to go down in order to preserve their spot in the Premier Division.

Uphill Castle are currently fairing the best out of the three teams in the table and have had a recent boost after beating fellow Weston team Wrington 1-0 on Tuesday night.

After the big win over their rivals means Castle now sit 10th in the table on 29 points, five points and four places away from the relegation zone with two games to go and looking far more comfortable than they did a week ago.

Castle had been struggling for form going into the final stretch of the season going five games without a win including a 7-1 loss to Chilcompton, but a 6-0 win over their other local rivals Worle just before the streak and the recent win over Wrington have given them a needed boost up the table.

They will be looking to close out the season well in home games against Chilcompton and Mendip Broadwalk, as they will have to watch on as other teams around them catch up on games in hand.

Wrington Redhill on the other hand, will need to gain every point they can in their last four games of the season in order to survive in the Premier Division for another season.

A terrible start to the season saw Wrington only win two games between August and March leaving them glued to the bottom of the table with only the already relegated Clutton Firsts below them.

However, a recent surge in form has breathed life back into their campaign.

Three wins and a draw from their six games so far in April has meant that Wrington are now only four points away from safety with four games in hand giving hope to their survival, but Tuesday nights loss to Uphill Castle would’ve been a blow to the team’s momentum.

Worle have been the most consistent of the three teams throughout the season, but still find themselves at the top of the relegation zone on 24 points, only one place and three points above Wrington.

They do however have seven games still to play this season, three more than Somerton Town who are only five points above and five more than Keynsham Town Reserves who have already finished their season on 29 points.

Survival for Worle is in their own hands, if they win their last five fixtures they guarantee themselves safety and the first of those five is none other than Wrington Redhill.

The local rivals play on April 25th, knowing a win either way could be decisive in both their seasons.

A Wrington win would bring them within range of survival positions, inches away from the likes of Somerton, Keynsham and Ilminster, whereas a win for Worle would continue their perfect April and set them on their way to safety.

Uphill Castle meanwhile will be hoping to win their last few games and stay out of reach a fiery battle to stay in the Premier Division of Somerset football which has involved all three Weston teams.

Wrington Redhill play Worle Firsts on April 25th, 6:30pm kick off at the Wrington Recreation Ground.
