Weston Aerobic Gymnastics Club picked up 72 medals at the Welsh Open Aerobic Championships.

WESTON Aerobic Gymnastics Club travelled to Cardiff to take part in the Welsh Open Aerobic Championships.

The club sent a team comprising of seasoned international competitors through to some younger gymnasts, who were getting their first taste of the pressures of competition.

Three days of competition gave the local stars the opportunity to pit themselves against other clubs at regional, national and international level and followed the usual format of youngest squads first and finishing with the seniors.

All three squads performed magnificently and after the three days, the medal tally stood at an incredible 37 golds, 25 silver and 10 bronze, 72 in total all from the efforts of 62 gymnasts.

Coach Alison Harvey said: “We have had a fantastic time, all of the gymnasts have produced amazing results. Whether they have medalled or not they can be really proud of themselves.

“The huge medal tally reflects the on-going and excellent support network that the club enjoys from parents and schools, without which we would not be able to do our job and help the gymnasts to excel.”

Work at the club in The Potteries, Weston, continues with preparations in readiness for the upcoming world championships in Mexico, the British Championships later in the year and the club’s own gala which will be held at the Playhouse again this year and promises to be even more spectacular than last year.
