AVON Ski Club entered a number of its racers into a team dual slalom that was arranged by the Avon Ski Slope at Churchill.

slalom that was arranged by the Avon Ski & Action Centre at Churchill.

In what is probably the most exciting version of racing to be held on artificial snow surfaces, teams of five compete in a relay race, side by side with another team, through a testing slalom course.

In all, 10 teams entered, which meant 50 racers, completing 400 runs in two hours of adrenaline packed racing. The teams were split into two leagues, with both a mixture of juniors and seniors taking part.

League one saw a tie for the first place between Avon Ski Club’s A team (youngest racer aged nine) and Millfield School A team, with Avon B team (youngest racer aged six) coming only three points behind in second place. League two saw Training B beat Clifton College Prep into second place.

Avon Ski Club are taking a number of its younger racers to Bulgaria in a few weeks as part of the West of England ski team to take part in race training with Bulgarian national team coaches, and to compete in races against Bulgarian ski teams, so this was a good practice session.

Avon Ski Club would like to thank the ski centre for organising an enjoyable evening, especially Dean and Malcolm, but not to forget all the other willing helpers who suffered in the cold.

The evening was a success and hopefully this will become a regular occurrence, and encourage more local schools to enter teams to take part in this entry level of racing.
