Mixed short mat results for Clarence teams

Clarence short mat bowls teams had mixed results in the latest round of league fixtures.

Winning on one rink each, Clarence Crusaders won the match against Banwell by five shots.

Fakhry Al-Hinai and Bob Sweet skipped by Mick Edlin were 11 shots up by end six, but then dropped eight on the next three ends, bringing Banwell to within three shots. The Crusaders held their nerve taking a five on the final end.

Clarence Crusaders 26, Banwell 21: P Fowler, J Mannion, C Edlin 8-1; F Al-Hinai, B Sweet, M Edlin 18-10.

With each taking a rink apiece, the Cavaliers lost by five shots to Mark Moor. Ronnie Jones and Sarie Pritchard skipped by Adrian Gardiner started well and kept the hammer down with a superb 10-5 victory.

Clarence Cavaliers 13, Mark Moor 18: B Hayes, P Dunn, V Gardiner 5-13; R Jones, S Pritchard, A Gardiner 10-5.

The Crusaders lost by one shot against Mark Moor and ended their hopes of finishing second in the league.

Sue Sweet and Pam Fowler skipped by Carol Edlin were four ahead after seven ends, but Mark Moor came back taking three shots from the final three ends giving Carol’s team a one-shot win.

Clarence Crusaders 17, Mark Moor 18: S Sweet, P Fowler, C Edlin 10-9; A Bishop, B Sweet, M Edlin 7-9.

Again the teams took a rink apiece with shot difference going to Kewstoke Kites. Sue Sweet and Christine Hooper skipped by Bob Sweet started well taking the first three ends.

The Kites made a bit of a comeback on the next two ends taking four shots and levelling up the match. Crusaders hit back and over the next three ends took nine shots. The Kites came back again with five shots on the final two ends and gave Bob’s team a four-shot win.

Clarence Cavaliers 17, Kewstoke Kites 22: S Sweet, C Hooper, B Sweet 13-9; F Al-Hinai, J Mannion, M Edlin 4-13.
