ST ANDREW'S Tony Hyde, Ken Uglow, Ron Gill and Barrie Forse were at Taunton Deane to contest the area final of the National Over-60s Fours.

Bridgwater BCL provided strong opposition with the inclusion of a trio who had won the national men's outdoor triples in the past.

Saints, however, made the early running and quickly established a significant 14-point lead before the Bridgwater side registered a score. After brief resistance the Saints were able to maintain their commanding lead running out winners by 24 shots to 10. They now proceed to the national championships at Northampton on February 14 when their first round opponents will be from Moonfleet in Dorset.

Ron Gill, Barrie Forse and Ken Uglow will be in action again at Taunton Deane on Tuesday, January 12, in the area final of the Over-50s Triples where they hope to make it a double against Bridgwater BCL who again provide the opposition.

VICTORIA held their annual Christmas draw and took the occasion to present the Alzheimer's Society with a cheque for £750.

Club president Dave Williams explained that the money was collected during friendly matches played in this year's outdoor season. Members were fined for various transgressions committed during and after the games.

In accepting the cheque Hazel Moore, manager of the North Somerset branch of the Alzheimer's Society said that as a child she was told that being naughty did not pay, but the manner in which this money was raised has proved quite the opposite.
