Weston & District Skittles League suffered another narrow defeat, this time against the Wrington Vale League.

The Weston & District League played their second match of the season, this time against the Wrington Vale League.

Like the first game against the Central League, the District came second this time by six pins. As this is the best of three, the District must win the return game to take it into a third game.

It was the last hand down that decided the game and in the match there was only two spares all night, both went to the Weston side. Top score for the District in the first set went to Dave Haigh with 45 and for the Wrington team it was M Flook with 42, as the District took the set by one pin.

In the second set, Paul Griffiths was top scorer with 42 and Dan Owen hit 40. Wrington found it hard to record any sort of score in this set and the District took it by 18 pins.

The third set was the turning point for Wrington, who won it by 16 pins, with Dean Hazell hitting 45 for Wrington and M Witmore getting 44 for the District, while Frank Thompson scored 41.

Going into the last set, the District had a three-pin advantage and all through it was nip and tuck by both teams. The District had hope on the fifth hand when Julian Mason got a spare, only to shave the front and put it through for a nine-spare and was top scorer in this set with 43.

The District went into the last hand down, only to hit a 14-pin down and this was when the Wrington team took advantage to win by eight pins and in doing so took the game by six. Top for Wrington was Keith Hann with 46, which was the highest score on the night.

Weston (D Haigh 45) 464, Wrington (K Hann 46) 470.
