St Andrews Bowling Club member Tony Steer has been appointed president of the Somerset County Indoor Bowling Association.

Tony Steer, of St Andrews Bowling Club, was elected president of the Somerset County Indoor Bowling Association at the AGM in Taunton.

He received his chain of office from the outgoing president Peter Staddon (Yeovil), having been senior deputy president for the last year.

Tony, aged 74, is a well-known personality in the world of Somerset bowls. He has been an indoor member at St Andrews for 30 years and has also played outdoors for Banwell.

He retired nine years ago after a varied career, including managing a pre-cast concrete company. The new president is looking forward to an even busier year than last winter, when he received his county colours for having played 50 matches in a record short space of time.
