CHEDDAR Tennis Club’s latest junior open tournament for 12 to 16-year-olds was highly successful with 30 players competing over two days.

A number of Cheddar members who have been having regular coaching at the club entered the tournament, along with top juniors from as far afield as Kent, Berkshire and Hampshire.

In the Under-16 events on Saturday, the pick of the Cheddar boys was James Knight who finished a creditable third, having pushed the top seed and eventual winner all the way in the semi-finals.

In the girls’ competition, 13-year-old Vanessa Brill, who also plays at Cheddar, acquitted herself well against older girls, finishing third too. However, next day she came back to win the Under-14 event, crowning a good weekend’s work.

Cheddar Tennis Club runs coaching throughout the year for juniors from four years upwards and also for adult improvers. Both group and individual lessons are provided and all abilities are welcome.
