Uphill Castle clinched promotion with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over rivals Middlezoy.

Uphill Castle gained promotion with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over visitors Middlezoy.

Both teams went into this game knowing whoever won got the big prize and it was Uphill who saved their best performance of the season for the last game.

Skipper Andy Llewellyn won the toss and asked the visitors to bat on a lovely sunny day and Andy Brooks and George Cox both bowled well with Cox in particular ripping the early batsman apart.

At drinks after 22 overs, Middlezoy were unbelievably 19-6. After the restart, Uphill carried on from where they left off and bowled Middlezoy out for 68. Cox claimed 9-5-3-8, Marcus Bail (2-7), Alex Winn (1-12) and Steve Philips 4-3.

Uphill started their innings with Luke Bliss and Winn hitting boundaries before Winn was out for 12, leaving Hone Milnes-Win 16 not out and Bliss 28 not out to guide Uphill home and promotion.

A special mention for wicketkeeper Jermain Jones, who finished the season with 42 dismissals, but the whole team did a tremendous job to get the team back in the WEPL.

Autosmart man of match George Cox.
