Belvedere lost their first match of the season, at home to East Huntspill

BELVEDERE slipped to their first defeat of the season, losing at home to East Huntspill by 15 runs.

The visitors batted first and Sam Mccrea gave his side the perfect start, bowling Butt with the score on 15. Hodge and Chedzey rallied before the latter was run out following excellent work by Nil Chatterjee, who then bowled Kidner to leave East Huntspill with much work to do at 57-3.

The aggressive Pomeroy struck a rapid 40 before being bowled by Callum Neate and further wickets for Neate and Chatterjee saw the visitors slip to 126-9. However, the last pair of Stamp and Dare added an invaluable 41 for the last wicket to ease their side to a competitive 167 all out.

Wickets were shared between all the bowlers - Chatterjee (7-0-39-3), Neate (11-2-52-2), Jack Neville (0.3-0-4-1), Mccrea (9-2-28-1) and Paul Davis (12-0-39-1).

In response, Kevin Crockett and Mike Hosey gave Belvedere a good start, adding 35 for the first wicket before Crockett was caught behind for 13.

Sam Neate fell immediately trapped leg before without scoring, but Mccrea joined Hosey and they took the score to 89-2 before Mccrea was caught for 13.

Hosey was in fine form finding the boundary with ease, but the quick loss of Neville without scoring and Hosey for 48 (including 10 fours) left the hosts wobbling at 95-5.

Pete Hooper and Callum Neate added a priceless 32 before Hooper was lbw for 17 and the loss of Neate and Chatterjee in quick succession left Belvedere in a dire position at 129-8.

Rob Huish (15 not out) tried manfully to see his side home, but ran out of partners as Belvedere were dismissed for 152.

Mike Hosey was adjudged the All Stars man of the match as Belvedere face a trip to Peasedown St John on Saturday.
