Weston travelled to Thornbury and recorded a victory against the newly-promoted side.

WESTON recorded a good victory against promoted Thornbury last Saturday.

Gary Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first, but was left ruing his decision when both himself and opener Edd Brown were out within the first 10 overs, leaving Simon Green and Sam Trego to effectively start the innings again.

Juavanie Gayle (2-37) and Wayne Kylander (4-59) tried their best to keep run scoring to a minimum, but on a small pitch the fielders found it difficult to stem the flurry of boundaries flying from both bats, ended only when Gayle took a sharp caught and bowled to dismiss Trego for a quick fire 30.

Green was happy to support as overseas signing Jackson Davey played fluently to lay all demons to rest over his capabilities to perform in Premier 1.

Davey posted his half century in quick time, and his aggressive manner inspired Green who recorded an equally well-deserved 50 just moments later, having developed a 120-run partnership which eased Weston into a decent score with nearly 10 overs still to play.

Green departed for 72 and Davey was joined briefly by Shabil Ahmed, Sean Stringer and Andy Fear, and by the end of the 50th over Davey had finished 87 not out, and Weston had posted 247-6.

In reply, Thornbury posted nearly a third of their required total before Blakemore hit one straight back at Trego (2-31) who happily accepted the catch.

A mini collapse ensued as Brown got a direct hit to dismiss Ford, and Gayle gave an easy chance to Davies at square leg off Ahmed (2-38), before Stovold missed a straight one from Trego leaving Thornbury on 98-4 at the halfway point.

Good as this seemed for Weston, Trotman and Kylander had the ability to take the game away from Weston. However, after a solid 50-run partnership Trotman fell to Ahmed, and Kylander skied one off Ben Main straight into the hands of his brother Tom, and the game was Weston’s for the taking.

Ben Main finished off proceedings with 3-40 as Weston recorded their first victory of the season and a valuable 20 points.

The Intouch CRM man of the match was jointly shared between Simon Green and Jackson Davey.
