WESTON’S very own Pete Trego, who played such a key role in Somerset’s all-round success last summer and made an impact playing for England Lions in 2010, is continuing his fine run playing grade cricket for Casey-South Melbourne, Australia, this winter.

The 29-year-old, whose brother Sam led Uphill Castle to promotion to the Bristol and Somerset Division of the WEPL this summer, was in fine form with the ball over the weekend as he claimed a six wicket haul for CSM, for whom Aussie Damien Wright also plays, to help them beat Victoria Premier Grade opponents Northcote in a two-day game.

After opting to bat first at Casey Fields, Trego removed the top four Northcote batsmen to reduce them to 64-4 before returning later to add a couple more to his haul as the visitors were dismissed for 201.

In reply, Casey-South Melbourne made 276-5 off their 82 overs, with Trego, batting at number five, making eight.

Trego currently tops the CSM bowling averages with 11 victims at a cost of 12.82 runs apiece, while he is second in the team’s batting averages with 183 from his seven games which gives the all rounder an average of
30.5.

Talking overall about how things are going for him Trego said: “Things are going well me out here. I am training hard, but we have had a lot of rain at the weekends, so several of our games haven’t been finished, although we have ended this one ok.”

“Bowling Northcote out for 201 was a good effort and I finished with 6-61 which I think was really pleasing because it was a pretty flat wicket at Casey Fields.”

Trego will be returning to join up with his Somerset team-mates for the T20 in January about which he said: “I am really looking forward to coming back in the New Year to meet up with the boys and get stuck into the challenge the awaits up in the Caribbean.”
