Children from a North Somerset primary school showcased their sporting talents before the end of term, representing the district in a cricket tournament.

Girls from St Anne’s Primary School, in Hewish, finished second in the North Somerset School Games – meaning they would wield the willow in the county finals.

They performed well with bat and ball in the final to earn a commendable seventh place.

Play leader and sports coordinator Lin Hodges said: “The girls cricket team represented North Somerset at the county finals at Street Cricket Club. This meant we were one of the top 10 girls cricket teams from across four counties.

“The girls played lovely cricket, fielding and batting with skill.

“The whole team had a wonderful team spirit and supported each other really well and we finished in seventh place which is a fantastic achievement for the girls.”
