Somerset ladies county pool team defeated Devon, the match going down to the last frame.

Both Somerset men’s and ladies’ pool teams battled against Devon’s finest in the regional championships.

Hopes were high, although expectation not quite as high following a difficult year and having lost some key players. Under new management, both men’s teams competed well and the results were close: Devon A 25, Somerset A 19; Devon B 24, Somerset B 20.

All the excitement was with the ladies however, who started with a sensational first set winning 10-1. Their form dipped a little and after the third set they were 17-16 down.

The team spirit rose to an even higher level and the atmosphere was electric. They got to 22 frames with just two to go and needed one more to secure victory. It went down to the black ball on the last frame which was potted by Michelle Grundy securing a win for Somerset.

This added to the victory against Cornwall ladies last month, they are now top of the regional table.
