The derby encounter between Wrington Redhill A and Congresbury Reserves ended in an entertain stalemate.

With the extended Christmas break and the poor run of weather, both teams have been without competitive football for two months and credit to Congresbury for getting the game on.

Both teams started with one up front, Callum Briggs undertaking the role for Wrington and Chris Tuckfield for Congresbury. Although sometimes isolated, both proved a constant nuisance and ran their socks off.

For Wrington, Mickey Edmunds showed his class and ran the game in the first-half, with Jonny Marsh and Scott Gallacher working hard in support.

Dave Pullen and Phil Williams, together with Dean Rix formed a solid back three and James Williams in goal looked secure and handled well in the tricky conditions.

The first goal was always going to be important. Jonny Marsh won a corner, with Pullen managing to hold the ball up to allow Briggs to fire home.

Briggs managed to escape on a couple of occasions and could have added to his score, but Danny Bullock was impressive in the Congresbury goal.

After the break, Briggs escaped again which could have settled the match, but Bullock was equal to the task. This proved crucial as out of the blue, Jeadon Merrick slotted the ball home for a well-deserved goal.

In the end both teams were satisfied with a point, which lifted Wrington off the bottom of the table.
