SAINTS finished their season with a win against a battling Nailsea side.

The win meant that Saints finished fourth in the table, one position away from a promotion place.

The game got off to a slow start with neither side offering much of a threat. Saints defenders Dave Wilcox, Dean Pierson, George Constantinou and Mike Carpenter dealt comfortably with the rare Nailsea attacks.

As the half went on, Saints started to take control of the game with Juzzy Flavell, Mark Adams and Mark Whitfield winning the midfield battle. Flavell was denied on two occasions by blocks by Nailsea defenders and Ross Stockhall forced the keeper into a good save.

Saints got the goal they deserved when Flavell beat the keeper to Andy Young’s cross to head the ball home and give the Saints a 1-0 half-time lead.

In the second half, Saints doubled their lead when Stockhall beat a defender before firing a low shot past the keeper. Nailsea hadn’t given up and Saints keeper Joe Malik had to dive full length to keep out a good long-range effort.

At the other end Nailsea were struggling to cope with Stockhall and he soon made the score 3-0. Saints made the score 4-0 with the goal of the game. The goal came when Wilcox found Flavell and his pass sent Ryan Hodrien clear, his shot was saved, but the rebound found the unmarked Stockhall who smashed it into the net to complete his hat-trick.

With only minutes remaining, Nailsea scored a consolation goal following hesitancy in the Saints defence to make the final score 4-1.

Bookers Wholesale player of the match was Ross Stockhall.
