TONIGHT’S Somerset Premier Cup final between Weston and Clevedon Town has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
The derby was due to be played at Clevedon’s Hand Stadium at 7.45pm, but after a pitch inspection it was decided that the surface would be unplayable.
Following discussions between the two clubs this afternoon, the final has now been rescheduled to take place at the stadium next Tuesday at 7.45pm.
The decision to postpone tonight’s match was taken after the match referee inspected the pitch at lunchtime.
The pitch was flooded and water was draining off the playing surface onto the terraces, where there was about 6ins of water in some places, with officials deeming it a safety hazard.
Clevedon Town staff are currently using a large pump to drain the water.
