THE Sports Active Seagulls Community Trust held its first county walking football tournament @Worle.

Weston, Clevedon and Yeovil all took part with the winners of the tournament going on to represent Somerset in the regional tournament.

The first game saw Weston take on Clevedon. After a slow start Weston found themselves a goal down. A well organised Clevedon team were in good form and some great saves by goalkeeper Rob Coles kept Weston in with a chance, but Weston could not find an equaliser.

The second game saw Clevedon Town take on Yeovil and just before half-time Yeovil took the lead with an excellent strike from 25 yards. Despite Clevedon’s best efforts, they were unable to score and the game finished 2-0 to Yeovil.

This left the last game between Weston and Yeovil with Weston needing a 3-0 win to have any chance of progressing. Chances fell to both teams, but neither team could score, despite Ian Carrington-Porter and Roy Phillips going close.

Weston squad: Rob Coles, Brian Tyrrell, Brian Duncan, Michael Holloway, Bryan Sheridan, Ian Carrington-Porter, David Jones, Rob Gibbons, Alan Cockayne, Roy Phillips.

The final positions saw Yeovil as eventual winners with four points, Clevedon Town with three and Weston with one.
