Weston-super-Mare boss Marc McGregor has dismissed speculation striker Jamie Lucas will return to the club.

Lucas made 21 appearances for the Seagulls while on loan from Bristol Rovers in 2014-15, netting 13 goals.

Lucas’ fine form at the Woodspring Stadium was rewarded with the National League South player of the month crown after a hat-trick against Bishop’s Stortford.

He has since turned out for National League side Boreham Wood, followed by a spell with Somerset rivals Bath City.

The 22-year-old was released by the Romans in November.

And the Welshman has been linked with a return to BS24 in the wake of the announcement of talisman Dayle Grubb’s departure for Forest Green Roves on January 1, but Weston boss Marc McGregor told the Mercury Lucas will not be joining the club.

He said: “We spoke to Jamie, but we’re not there financially.

“I believe we will not be pursuing that signing.”
