George Case, a member of Avon Ski Club, has been crowned English Under-14 champion.

AVON Ski Club member George Case has just been crowned English champion in the Under-14s age group.

The English Championships were held this year in Bormio in Italy, with over 400 competitors and include all the normal alpine race disciplines.

George held off strong competition to record fifth in the giant slalom after the two runs, but unfortunately skied out on the second of the slalom runs, but landed the English title with two storming runs in the super giant.

George has been selected for the British team this season and after a successful competition in Andorra in January, has also competed in the unofficial world championships for children at the Topolino in Italy.

Recording a 33rd place finish in a massive field, it was a baptism of fire among the top skiers from all over Europe and beyond, over 40 countries were represented by their top two skiers.

Avon Ski Club also had Will Milkins and Max Schubert competing in the English championships. Max recorded an 18th place in the giant slalom and a 16th place in the Under-12s combi.

In the same event, Will came 21st and 22nd. In the Under-14s, Michael Harvey posted 30th in the giant and 23rd in the super giant.

Over the last few weeks, the club have swelled their number of trainees on the Tuesday night training session, with an after schools club being run for Sandford and Winscombe primary schools by Peter Kennell, as well as the growing interest from Priory Academy Trust.

Thirty-two racers took part in Tuesdays timed runs sessions, the largest session outside of formal races, an event that kept the coaches very busy.

Avon Ski Club hold sessions every Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the Mendip Snowsport Centre in Churchill, and anyone wishing to come along and try can do so for the discounted rate of £7.50 including equipment.

Due to demand, please either contact the club via or by phoning chairman Fraser Black, Chair 07721 594676.
