Burnham & Berrow Golf Club elected new club captain Mark Woods at its annual meeting.
Mark Woods has been elected the new club captain at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club at the club’s annual meeting.
Mark has taken over the role from outgoing captain Peter Amos. In his last speech as captain, Peter paid tribute to everyone at the club who had helped to make his year so enjoyable and successful.
In conjunction with Jane Moreton, the ladies’ captain, they managed to raise more than £10,000 for their chosen charities, with £8,000 going to Friends of Burnham Hospital and £2,000 to the YMCA
Outgoing ladies’ captain Moreton has been replaced by Liz Biddle and Bryn Jones takes over the seniors’ captains role from Ray French.
One of the last functions of Peter’s year was the club trophy dinner where the winners of the past year’s trophies are presented. There was an excellent turnout with a slight change in the format this year, which also included the presentations of the ladies’ trophies as well.
It was a remarkable weekend at Burnham with two players recording hole-in-ones on the same day at different holes. Early starter Chris Perry was first recording a hole in one at the ninth hole in an otherwise average round recording 31 points.
The second ace was achieved by new junior member Ollie Brimfi, a four handicapper. After the excitement of his ace at the 17th, a triple bogey seven at the last left him one point behind the eventual winner Will Crandon, who produced the round of the day to win the Division 1 Stableford with 40 points.
Despite dropping three shots in the first six holes, four handicapper Will fought back with birdies at the eighth, ninth, 14th and 16th holes and conceded just one dropped shot at the 15th for a level par round of 71 and 40 points. One shot ahead of Phil Coggins and Ollie Brimfield (39).
