Two rounds of 65 for a total of 130, 10 under par, including a hole-in-one, saw Mendip Spring golfer Will Poole crowned the individual champion at the South Western Counties Golf Association Championships at Weston Golf Club.

Poole has been a member at Mendip Spring since he starting playing aged eight and is enjoying a successful season. He won the South East Links Championship at Royal Cinque Ports/Royal St Georges earlier in the year.

He was third in the West of England Amateur at Saunton and won the Burnham Salver earlier this month. The 23-year-old has a handicap of -3 and has just played in the British Amateur Championship at Royal St Georges and Prince’s.

Burnham & Berrow Golf Club members Sam Fernley and Phil White enjoyed a good week, both scoring 6.5 points for Somerset.
