NETBALL - WESTON Netball Club s second team made a great start to 2010 with a win over Mangotsfield.

WESTON Netball Club's second team made a great start to 2010 with a win over Mangotsfield, their second win of the season over the Bristol team.

The game started off close, with both teams fighting hard for possession and the score going with the centre. Mangotsfield's shooting was spot on, so Weston were unable to win many rebounds, but the defence worked tirelessly to turn the game around in the second quarter, with Hellen Gillmore and Jenny Akehurst making some brilliant interceptions to get the ball back to the Weston attack.

Jara Lapham and Mel Chilman worked well together in the circle, with the support of Kadie Hodges and Rachel Mason while Becky Lewington had a great game, first as WD and then taking over Centre, allowing Laura Stainer to come on in the defence end.

The third quarter was tight again, but Weston pushed the Mangotsfield defence, while Hellen, who received player of the match for her efforts, and Jenny made life difficult for the attack, allowing Weston to break away in the fourth and produce a final score of 44-37.
