The Kings of Wessex Academy’s equestrian team finished an excellent second place at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

With Windsor big in the news this month, The Kings of Wessex Academy’s equestrian team can report on their success in this hallowed royal town as the season gallops along.

Iona Impey, Alice Sandiford, Katie Thomas and Harriet Tutt qualified for the Royal Windsor Horse Show for the third year running.

Kings were the 10th team to jump. Iona went first and put a clear round on the board, and Katie backed this up with another clear. The team were looking at a possible clear, which Harriet Tutt soon delivered.

There was still the luxury of Alice to jump, who knew if she could jump a fast clear Kings would be difficult to beat. Alice proceeded to jump one of the fastest clear rounds of the day and Kings thought they had won.

However, with 17 more teams to jump they were living on their nerves and with only three teams to go, they watched as a team from Sussex pipped them by barely a second.

The Kings’ team were nevertheless a credit to the school and should feel proud of coming second out of 27 teams, all of whom had to qualify to compete at Windsor.

Executive head teacher Gavin Ball said: “Congratulations to our equestrian team for their splendid second in the prestigious Royal Windsor Horse Show in which they successfully qualified.”
