The Somerset Rebels have announced Richard Lawson as their first signing for the new season.

The Cases Somerset Rebels have announced their first signing for the 2018 season, which will see a return to the Oaktree Arena for the club’s 2017 Rider of the Year, Richard Lawson.

Lawson initially joined the Rebels in May as part of the team changes made by the club last season, making an immediate impact, and as team manager Garry May explains, it was a signing he was keen to make for the 2018 campaign.

Garry said: “Richard did a superb job for us last season, which was rightly recognised when he was voted as the fans’ rider of the year, and I was keen to bring him back for 2018, with Richard making it clear that he wanted to return to ride for the club next year.

“I know that Richard’s signing will be well received by the Somerset fans, and this is a great way to get our rider announcements for next season underway.”

Lawson ended the 2017 season with an official 6.43 average and will combine his Premiership duties with Somerset with those of Lakeside in the Championship, the sport’s second-tier of racing in the UK.
