A JOINT Hornets and Weston team took on the British Fire Service in a memorial game for Andy Steele who tragically died last October. The Fire Service opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Jim Begg crossed for a try, converted by Pete Hamil, but five minutes later, Dave Bird touched down and James Reid converted to equalise. On the half hour, the Fire Service hit back with an unconverted try by Phil Akin and went further in front on 35 minutes when Scott Nichol crossed under the posts for Hamil to add the conversion. The Barbarians came back with a try by Dave Underwood, converted by Reid to bring the half-time score to 19-12.Ten minutes into the second half, Begg intercepted a loose pass to run 50 metres and score his second try under the posts for Hamil to again convert, but Underwood hit back with his second try which Reid again converted.Another loose Barbarians pass was snapped up by Begg who completed his hat-trick with five minutes left, but the Barbarians were not finished as Andy Steele crossed for an unconverted try.Following the game, there was an auction where a limited edition England World Cup shirt signed by Lawrence Dallaglio went for £1,350.
