Weston United gained promotion to the Somerset Premier Division after victory against Wiveliscombe in a winner takes all encounter.

WESTON United have been promoted to the Somerset Premier Division after a hard fought victory against Wiveliscombe in a winner takes all encounter.

Weston started slowly and Wiveliscombe took an early lead through full-back Tom Chaffey, but the hosts soon equalised through home full-back Chris Hurd following good work by Steven Thompson.

Wiveliscombe again took the lead when quick hands from a tap penalty led to Jake Sharland crossing to give the visitors a five point advantage at the break.

Weston recharged at half time and soon levelled matters when Thompson crossed in the corner after a blind side break from a scrum.

Wiveliscombe were ahead again when a chip to the corner was pounced on by Chaffey. Weston again hit back when good work by flankers Shaun Eaton and Dave Steele created a try for Thompson. Centre Chris Young found his kicking boots to convert.

Weston was gaining the ascendancy and when a powerful drive by lock Andrew Richards was followed by a tremendous run by Thompson, who gave replacement scrum-half Jack Conway a try.
