Weston Rugby Club have been nominated for the Facility Development of the Year award at the Crabbie’s National Rugby Awards.

Weston Rugby Club have got a shot in the arm after they were nominated for the Facility Development of the Year award at the Crabbie’s National Rugby Awards.

The club enhanced its facilities dramatically last season which saw the unveiling of a newly-refurbished gym which is open to both players and members of the public.

The club’s physio room also doubled in size and all construction work was carried out by members and volunteers, including the physio himself, who painted the internal walls.

Club secretary Rob Solomon, who nominated the club for the award, said: “The internal painting of the physio room was carried out by the physio himself and some of the equipment was acquired from the local hospital when they had their own refurbishment and wanted to replace treatment beds.

“For a club at our level it is by far the best facility we have seen and is only outdone by quality of the physio team that operate it.”

Elsewhere, Winscombe were also nominated for the Rugby Club of the Year award at the Crabbie’s National Rugby Awards after the senior team won the Somerset Premier League, progressing to the South West Division for the first time in the club’s history.

Held at rugby headquarters, Twickenham Stadium, at the end of the month, the National Rugby Awards celebrate the best of English rugby, from grassroots to the very pinnacle of the game.

Former England captain Chris Robshaw played a major part in the creation of the awards, and while he is spending the tail end of his summer preparing for Harlequins’ new Premiership Rugby campaign, he took time out to congratulate all those nominated for an award.
