Winscombe Under-18s Girls have won though to the final of the South West Cup with an emphatic win at Crediton.

The girls travelled to Devon to face a strong Crediton team in the semi-final and started brightly and were soon pressing the Crediton try-line, with Jess Dadds crossing to open the scoring, Lucy Burgess adding the conversion.

Despite facing a team that contained many county and regional players, Winscombe dominated the first-half, their scrum was reliable and their line-out supreme.

Shortly before the break and after a period of sustained pressure, the ball found its way to prop Florence Long, who was not to be denied and crashed over from five metres for Winscombe’s second try.

Winscombe’s Charlotte Wright-Haley was to score at the start of the second half, before the home team fought back and scored a well-worked try in the corner to bring them back into the contest.

The visitors were forced to defend their tryline fiercely before eventually breaking loose to score two more tries through Emily Czechowski and Wright-Haley. Crediton were to score a consolation try at the death.

Winscombe will now face Devonport Services in the final of the South West Championships.
