YATTON'S 1st XV had the edge they have badly needed thanks to returning players from injury, a rethink and new look line-up, after a dormant six weeks due to the festive season, waterlogged and frozen pitches.

Mike Harris' try and a conversion by George Osborne put Yatton ahead after the first five minutes and Osborne's penalty from halfway increasing the lead 10 minutes later.

Chosen Hill's pressure resulted in a yellow card against the home defence, on their try line, and the visitors first points with a penalty at the end of the first quarter.

A follow-up penalty by Osborne retrieved the difference on 30 minutes and a midfield break by Nick Spellissey ended with Glen Jones scoring a try in the corner shortly afterward.

Then Chosen's pressure kept Yatton pinned within their 22 until the halftime whistle and the visitors upped the pressure further immediately after the break. But it was a Yatton clearance kick at 50 minutes and uncertainty in the travellers' defence unsettled by the speed of follow up that gained the supporting Sam Osborne his first try, converted by his brother George.

With solid ball from Yatton's runner-up man of the match Ian Spillar Harris finished off in the far corner and George Osborne collected the extras.

But with 10 minutes still to go and looking at certain defeat, Chosen showed their gutsy spirit, conjuring up a crash try through Nick Selway out of ruck and maul ball.

However the Osborne duo claimed Yatton's last try and conversion in injury time to finish off the home side's satisfactory afternoon.

This Saturday Yatton 1st XV travel to Sidmouth to see if they can continue this form in an away league game. The 2nds are at home to Old Reds as are the 3rd XV to Stothert and Pitt.

On Sunday, Yatton's Colts are Bristol Leaguing it. The Under-17s go to Cleeve and the Under-15s to Saracens. The Under-13s are due at home against Chew Valley while the Midis and Minis also entertain Frampton Cotterell at home.
