Yatton 13 pts Stroud 5 ptsCONSTANT rain had made heavy and slippery conditions for this Western Counties (North) encounter, so it was not for running rugby. In the first four minutes, from a Yatton attack, Josh Lister intercepted for Stroud and supporting player Rob Matts was forced to touch down in a corner, denying extra points from the conversion, after Lister had been tackled short of the line by the Yatton player who had given him the pass.At 25 minutes a player from each side was yellow carded as the game became intense. Sam Osborne's penalty minutes later put Yatton on the board and for the next 20 minutes play became niggly, being addressed by the referee's authority. Osborne's second penalty conversion minutes before half-time eased the home side in front.A tough midfield battle continued for the third quarter with Stroud's heavy pack having the edge in scrums, but forcing the play up-field with rucks and mauls, Yatton were adjudged to have been held up between the opposition's posts.Yatton's pack achieved the nudge in the two resulting scrums with Nic Spellissey eventually grounding the ball and Osborne's conversion bouncing in off an upright. Both sides battled it out in this exhausting game for the remaining 10 minutes with Yatton retaining their top of the table position.
