Weston Athletic Club members ran well at the Clevedon 10k to record personal best times.

CLEVEDON was the stage, and the players were a 39-strong cast of Weston Athletic Club runners, resplendent in their yellow vests.

Leading man was Kieron Summers who finished the 10k course in 35.34 - a personal best, and Phil Richards took the role of leading lady, crossing the line in 41.49.

The male understudies were David Stock and Marc Molloy, finishing in 35.37 and 38.26 respectively. Second and third women were Nia Davies in 44.53 and Claudine Mercer in 45.31.

The performances on the night were truly outstanding, with many of the runners, far too many to mention individually, running their best 10k ever. The role of Bottom was played by Chris Edwards.

On Sunday, three club members took on the Ironman 70.3 UK on Exmoor - a race of three acts - a 1.2-mile open water swim in Wimbleball Lake, a punishingly hilly bike ride of 56 miles, and, finally, an off-road half marathon along the humid lakeside route.

Dominic Taylor-Jones was the first club member to complete what is reputed to be the toughest Ironman 70.3 event in the world, finishing in 6.17.04. Gerry King followed half an hour later in 6.47.22 , and Simon Andrews finished in third spot, in 7.12.32.

Finally, having competed in the Great North Swim at Lake Windermere on Saturday, Marc Molloy travelled south to take on the Windsor Olympic distance triathlon and finished 28th overall in a time of 2.13.52.

Entry will soon be open for the new season of Weston Athletic Club’s five-mile prom runs - a series of nine races from September to May on Weston seafront.
