Three local waterskiers take part in the national championships on the River Trent.

THREE skiers from the Weston Waterski Club took part in the third round of the national water-ski racing championships at Marnham on the River Trent.

Being the only inshore event of the season, high speeds were expected with Formula 1 boats nudging close to 100mph. John Grimes skiing in the senior class behind his usual F1 had a brilliant start, leading on the first leg.

Unfortunately, on the way back, just a few minutes from the finish, he was scuppered with mechanical problems. Chris Preece, competing in open class, suffered unfortunate mechanical issues when his F3 boat was unable to make it to the race and was left without a boat. He was fortunate to gain a tow behind a F2 boat, which brought him his second win in class this year.

Simon Dowling, skiing Formula 3, managed to achieve his first win of the season, despite suffering a few problems in training on the Saturday.
