The Somerset Rebels accepted an invitation from the Leicester Lions to take part in a challenge match on March 26.

The Cases Somerset Rebels will be having an earlier start than originally anticipated, after accepting an invitation from the Leicester Lions for a challenge match on March 26.

The added fixture gives the Rebels the opportunity to get some extra race time together before their opening home meeting of the season on Good Friday and comes 48 hours before the Rebels’ press and practice day.

Accepting Leicester’s invite, Somerset promoter Debbie Hancock admits: “It is always good for teams to take in as much track time as possible and this challenge meeting has the added attraction of our world champion, Jason Doyle, returning to one of his former clubs.”

While the countdown to the start of the season, the Rebels’ second in top tier British racing, continues, the Highbridge-based club have advised that season ticket applications need to be submitted by March 1.

The press and practice day will see the riders put themselves through their paces between 2-5pm on March 28. The event will move into the clubhouse from 7pm where the team will be introduced, headlined by the world champion himself, Jason Doyle.

The club have confirmed that all fans are welcome to attend the event, which happens just two days before the Rebels’ go into knockout cup action against Poole, with the team heading to Dorset for a morning start before concluding the tie at the Oaktree at 7.30pm.

Departure from the Oak Tree is set for 8am sharp. Supporters can reserve their place for a fare of £10 by calling Di on 07879 018383 or visiting the track shop on press and practice day.
